My primary research interest is studying the trace gas history of the atmosphere through analysis of firn air and air extracted from polar ice cores. Firn and ice core air provide a unique opportunity to study the trace gas history of the atmosphere over time scales that well exceed the available instrumental record. Information on long-term atmospheric trace gas variability is necessary for understanding the impacts of climate change on global biogeochemical cycles and atmospheric chemistry, as well as the feedbacks between the global climate and the earth systems.
