Lab technician position, focus on host-microbe interactions
A full or part-time lab technician position is available for a project that is a joint collaboration between the Siryaporn and Gross labs, at the University of California, Irvine. Supported by a new NIH grant, this project uses a multi-disciplinary approach to study a novel innate-immune paradigm, that combines histones and antimicrobial peptides/agents to target bacterial membranes and bacterial replication. Studies at the intersection of host and microbe biology will focus on the host’s innate immune response, its effect on bacterial physiology, and the bacterial response.
We are seeking a highly motivated and career-oriented candidate to support this project by performing lab tasks that include but are not limited to animal care, animal infection studies, cell biology, and bacteriology. Candidates with prior experience in an animal facility will be given the highest consideration. Ideal candidates would have some of the skills/approaches listed above, and be comfortable with learning others, and working as part of a cross-disciplinary team. Good written and oral communication skills are essential, along with excellent project management skills.
The salary and benefits will follow the UCI specialist series. Irvine is located on the Southern California coast, mid-way between Los Angeles and San Diego.
