Poster Preparation

Pre-event information session:  How to prepare and present your poster

We will have an online zoom session if you would like to ask a graduate student for advice on preparing and presenting your poster.  The graduate student co-organizer will have a sample poster, so you can see what it is like to present a poster.  They will also be available to answer questions about poster preparation, presentation, and other tips.

Date/Time: TBA.  Zoom link will be sent to your email from Eventbrite registration.

Poster session assignments — google form

Once you are registered in Eventbrite, so that we can make the poster session assignments, if you plan to present a poster please fill out the following Google Form no later than August 3 at 5pm.  The title of your poster can be a draft version, it will just help us to balance the areas of research in each session.  If you do not fill out the Google Form, we will assume that you will not be presenting a poster and you will not be assigned a space in the poster session.

Poster session overview

There will be two poster sessions. You will be notified of your poster session assignment when you check in the day of the event. We cannot accommodate requests for specific poster sessions.

Instructions for Formatting Posters

To create your poster we recommend making a slide on Microsoft PowerPoint using the standard width (4:3) and a minimum font size of 28. Some general tips for making a scientific poster are provided at the link below.

Once you have created your slide in PowerPoint, convert the slide to either a JPEG, PNG file, or PDF (file–>export–> change export format to JPEG/PNG/PDF). Use highest quality settings when exporting. If you are printing your poster at your university, double check their guidelines to ensure you have the correct format. Poster printing can also be done at Office Depot, Staples, or FedEx. Have your poster printed and bring it with you on the day of the symposium.

Alternatively, posters may be printed on 8.5″ x 11″ paper. To do this, we recommend organizing information into twelve PowerPoint slides which can be arranged into a 3 x 4 grid on the poster board.

REMINDER: All poster content should be appropriate and professional.

Poster judges will walk around the poster sessions and awards will be given at the end of the symposium, so be prepared to talk about your science!
