UCI Campus Youth Council
Formed in 2015 by former Anteater Recreation Center staff members Jill Schindele and Kim Anderson, the Campus Youth Council (formerly referred to as the Youth Camps Council) was created out of a desire for various campus groups to share best practices and support one another as they develop youth programming. As we have grown, we continue to collaborate and establish guidelines and resources that ensure the safety and well being of the minors we engage with.
Our Mission
To ensure all campus groups engaged with youth programming are following policies, procedures, and best practices that prioritize the safety, protection, and well-being of minors on our campus.
Our Values
- Offer accessible and enriching experiences
- Prioritize the safety and well-being of every participant
- Foster the development of individual character and skills
- Create an engaged and inclusive community
Our objectives as a Council are to:
-
- Establish best practices of youth-related programs sponsored by UCI auxiliary and academic units, focused on youth protection and youth development
- Set minimum standards for youth-related program operations, providing a forum of discussion for youth-related program staff
- Bolster and facilitate dialogue and collaborations between youth program staff and campus constituents
- Ensure a collegial environment for youth in our community through programs and activities that uphold the UCI, and the University of California system, mission and values
