We invite proposals for performances of all kinds. Available venues includes the CTSA xMPL – a media-rich black box theatre; the Winifred Smith theatre, a conventional theatre with raked seating; various informal venues indoors and outdoors, daytime and night-time.
The EXPERIMENTAL MEDIA PERFORMANCE LAB (xMPL)
The conference will include one evening of performance in the xMPL. The xMPL is a 3100 square foot, black-box performance space optimized for interdisciplinary, interactive, and experimental new media performance projects. It is extremely versatile, with flexible lighting, sound and projection systems, tension wire grid, computer control, separate control rooms, configurable flooring/seating, and high-speed internet access.
– includes equipment to support multisite performances and live streaming.
– has a removable wooden dance floor with optional Marley surface that can cover all or a portion of the total floor space.
– Maximum seating capacity of 80 audience members. Legal standing room only capacity is 202.
While the conference and the school are pleased to make the xMPL available, proposers must be aware of the technical complexities of running the space and our limitations in terms of available support. Projects must be self-funded and staffed, and are expected to provide their own design and technical support. Works will be chosen on the basis of logistical viability and logistical compatibility as well as aesthetic and theoretical virtue. There will be one fixed lighting plot, and a fixed stage/seating plan for the performance evening. A site visit prior to conference dates is highly recommended. Load-in, bump-out, and rehearsal times will be set for time-slots before or during the conference.
