Weekly Writing 5 + 10

These assignments ask you to reflect on your posted and in-class contributions, first at the mid-point of the quarter and then at the end of class. Your comments should total two pages, double-spaced.

Weeks 5 + 10 (plan your postings so you have questions to reflect on in both the first and second half of the quarter. The week 10 assignment should address only the second half of the course–unless an early post has had a really active afterlife.)

A) Reproduce the questions you posted to the course home page. Reflect: How did the responses help you think about the topic? Did subsequent reading, lecture, or discussion help you better understand the topic. Does the question still seem relevant to you? What do you have to add, now?

B) Reproduce the questions to which you responded, along with your response. Reflect: How did the responses to this question contribute to a lively discussion? How did your contributions inform or deepen the discussion? What do you have to add, now?

C) Evaluate your in-class participation (for the first half of the quarter at week 5, and for the entire course in week 10). Use the grading rubric for content knowledge and historical thinking skills to assess your contributions and write a rationale for the grade you gave yourself. What is the greatest strength of your in-class participation? What areas do you need to improve?

D)  How have your on-line contributions and in-class participation affected your learning in this class? Do you respond better in one forum or another?
