In the article Beyond Finishing the Game: A Look at Asian American Grassroots Outreach, that written by John Fong argues that Asian Americans filmmakers spread the awareness of their culture and identity through movies. However, there is barriers as well as struggles while producing the film due to limited of budget. From one year to another, Asian American film increase the amount of audience because they focus on strengthen the visibility. In addition, the producer uses different method to create the film in order to attract the audience’s attention and at the same time, it also educate next generation to learn about incredible Asian Americans movies.
  2. on page 3 Fong states that “there are many barriers around ideas of access, but most lie at the highest levels, the companies that are reluctant to invest dollars in releasing a film in a market that they don’t know much about”. This quote means that some companies think about how much the movie that produce money before they invest on every movie. This is why the budget is low because not every big companies want to invest in all of the movies. They have to consider every angle of the benefit of investing on the movie. On page 4 Fong states that “Gene Cajayon’s modest Filipino American indie, coming-of-age feature surprised many when, using an almost exclusively grassroots, self-distribution strategy, it grossed over $1 million in the box office”. This means that when the director of the movie uses the right strategy to create the movie, the movie will get more attention and they also earn more money.
  3. on page 4 Fong introduces the word “grassroots”, this means that the development of Asian Americans movies is moving forward to success. Filmmakers is getting better on creating movie that include good meaning to educate people in the next generation.
  4. Angelina Julia who is one of the famous actor create a movie called “First They Kill my Father”. this movie represent the communist of Cambodia from the of 1977-1979 that killed over 2 billion people in Cambodians. this movie represent Cambodian people for the whole country and increase the awareness of communism.
