Thank you to everyone who attended and helped out at the Campuswide Honors Welcome Week in-person and virtual events. We hope you had as much fun as we did!
Introducing Ed Discussion
This year we will be conducting CHC-related discussion on CHCanvas via Ed Discussion so that we can all benefit from the collective knowledge of the CHCommunity. We encourage you to ask (and respond to) general CHC-related questions here. This is the best place to ask questions of the CHCommunity about any topic. You will get faster answers here from staff and peers than through email.
Here are some tips:
- Search before you post – your question may have already been asked and answered
- “Heart” questions and answers you find useful
- Answer questions you feel confident answering
- Share interesting CHC-related content with staff and peers
For more information on Ed Discussion, you can refer to the Quick Start Guide.
If you have personal questions about your individual situation, please email honors@uci.edu or make use of CHChat (available via honors.uci.edu). Please note that the answers to many questions may be found on your CHCanvas space.
Please note: although posts can be made anonymously, the Ed Discussion moderators (CHC staff) will still be able to see your name in connection with your posts.
Continuing students: Ed Discussion is UCI’s replacement for Piazza. The 2020-21 CHCanvas space, including Piazza, are now closed.

Student Excellence Center (5th Floor Science Library)
Join us for a night of crocheting and card-making while we watch a movie at the new Student Excellence Center (5th Floor Science Library) Our goal is to crochet as many beanies as possible to donate to a non-profit in Costa Mesa called Knots of Love. Help us spread warmth and love to chemo patients for the winter season. We will be teaching attendees how to crochet, so no experience is needed. Register here
If you can’t make it to the event, but still want to participate, you can drop off your beanie at the CHC office (5th floor, Science Library). Email Sophia Donaire (mdonaire@uci.edu) for more details about guidelines to make beanies. The deadline for drop off is Wednesday of Week 10 (Dec. 1)
UC GIS week 2021
Call for Participation due Thursday, September 30, 2021
“Dear University of California Community and mapping friends,
We are inviting you to participate in the UC-wide GIS Week, November 16 – 18, 2021. We will celebrate all things mapping and geospatial. In light of the challenging times, we are coming together virtually again this year, to share our work with the University of California community and beyond. If you are a faculty member, researcher, student, industry partner, alumnus, or community mapper, there is space for you to share your accomplishments and inspire others through your mapping and spatial analysis. We are looking for presentations, lightning talks, panelists, posters, Story Maps, and pre-recorded workshops.
We are accepting responses until September 30th. You will be notified on October 15th if your request to participate is accepted. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at ucgisday@gmail.com.”
