Areo Saffarzadeh is a 1st year medical student at UC Irvine. He is working with a new program that gives free music lessons to children in the Illumination Foundation (who used to be homeless). They are looking for volunteers who can give music lessons. Very little experience is necessary. This is a 2 hour, one day per week commitment. Have-A-Heart Volunteer Fair
The Center for Service in Action, formerly the UCI Volunteer Center, will host the Have-A-Heart Volunteer Fair 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at UCI Anteater Plaza. Join the collective effort to make a stronger and more positive community at UCI. Community service groups and agencies interested in offering volunteer and internship positions within UCI and Orange County will participate.

As an honors student, you are eligible to submit to the UC-wide honors journal, AUDEAMUS, a multi-disciplinary journal for anything that can be reproducible on paper or the screen. Submit to Scribendi
Scribendi is the Western Region Honors Council’s literary and fine arts publication. The Scribendi staff invite your submission of written work or arts for consideration for publication. An award of $250 is given for the best submission in each category. The deadline for submission is October 9, 2009.
Several UCI students have had their work published in Scribendi, and one even won an award, so send off those short stories, poems, or art languishing on your laptops!
The categories for submission are: Essays/Creative Non-Fiction | Poetry/Prose | Foreign Language | Short Fiction | Visual/Digital Art | Photography

Health Leaders Certification Program
The Health Education Center is offering their Health Leaders Certification Program this fall quarter. It earns 1.3 units of P/NP credit and is open to all students.
The Health Leaders Certification Program is a great opportunity for students who are looking to get involved on campus, become a leader, and promote health information to peers, Many of our participants become leaders in health-oriented clubs, return as a discussion leader for the class, or pursue more education in a health-related field.
Pre-registration is available through their website (www.health.uci.edu) and the class can be added on WebReg through September 23. After September 23, students can add the class by picking up an add card at the Health Education Center or attend our Information Session on October 7 at 3:00pm in Health Education Center (G319).
