Diverse Educational Community and Doctoral Experience (DECADE)
DECADE is a campus-wide organization consisting of faculty, students and administration committed to fostering collaborative efforts to improve climate, access and inclusion on our Irvine campus. The campus-wide DECADE mission is to increase the number of women and underrepresented minorities receiving doctoral degrees at UCI.
The School of Education (SoE) DECADE council encompasses the same mission with a focus on the needs and concerns of the graduate student body in the SoE. In order to promote an inclusive climate and provide resources and essential services for the success of the next generation of leaders, all graduate students in the SoE are encouraged to participate in the DECADE program. SoE DECADE’s mission to increase the recruitment, retention, and post-graduate success of diverse students pursuing doctoral degrees. SoE DECADE is committed to promoting equity, justice, and intellectual diversity both in the School of Education and the community. The SoE DECADE provides a number of support systems for grad students, including mentoring and professional development.
This year we plan to increase the types of supports offered to include access to resources and documents related to milestones, conferences, and more. We will also have students who can assist you with recruiting and supporting undergraduate RAs, as well as increase our outreach to the SOE undergraduate community and the greater community.
