Chest binding is a common practice for transmasculine-spectrum members of the transgender community, undertaken for a variety of potential reasons. The health effects of long-term binding is largely unknown, but the BREATHE study in association with the first long-term national LGBTQ+ health study, the PRIDE study, seeks to add to our understanding.

The goal of the BREATHE study is “to make binding safer, more informed, and more empowered.” They hope to also potentially create a space for individuals who bind to form a community.
