Getting to Irvine

Irvine is located in Orange County, Southern California. It is about 50 miles south of Los Angeles and about 85 miles north of San Diego.

To reach Irvine by air, there are multiple options, as there are 3 airports within 50 miles of Irvine:

  • John Wayne or Orange County airport (SNA): This airport is the closest to the venue of the conference, UC Irvine, being only 3 miles away from central campus. SNA is a convenient airport for most domestic flights, with flights operated by Alaska, American, Delta, Southwest, and United Airlines to name a few. As for international flights, currently SNA offers international flights only to Canada and Mexico.   • Long Beach airport (LGB): This airport is located 23 miles north of Irvine. LGB offers exclusively domestic flights, and it is mostly a hub for Southwest airlines, although it offers flights operated by American, Delta and Hawaiian Airlines. To get to Irvine from LGB, the only options are: taxis or rideshare apps. Standard fare for a taxi ride to Irvine from LGB is around $60.
  • Los Angeles Internation airport (LAX): Although of the 3 airports, LAX is the farthest – about 42 miles north of Irvine – LAX is also the airport that presents the largest number of choices and options for both domestic and international flights. To get to Irvine from LAX or viceversa, there are two main options:
    • taxi or rideshare apps: this will take at least 45 minutes (in regular traffic). The price for such one-way ride is at minimum $70.
    • Metrolink: traveling to LAX from Irvine (and viceversa) via Metrolink takes at least 2 hours, and it involves taking two means of public transportation: the train from Irvine/Tustin station to LA Union Station, and the bus LAX Flyaway connecting LA Union Station to LAX. One-way price for such a ride is about $15.
