The course theme for 2013-14 looks at ways in which people have represented, rationalized, propagandized, memorialized, evaluated, or understood, for themselves or for others, the human activity of war. Texts include classic and contemporary works by Homer, Sun Tzu, Machiavelli, Brecht, Whitman, Dickinson, J. M. Coetzee, Naomi Klein, Cognito Comics, Benjamin Britten, William Wyler, Maya Lin, Stanley Kubrick, Ruth Kluger, and Max Brooks.
