  1. Tescan engineer is making progress. The FIB vacuum gets to the requirement range. High tension is on and stable over night. He changed the aperture and will align the ion beam today.

  2. The new pump was installed yesterday. The vacuum is improving, but slow. By 6pm today, FIB gun pressure was above 1.4e-5Pa. It is better than last ION pump. Keep finger crossed.

  3. The new ion pump will arrive at about 3pm on Monday. Tescan engineer will land at OC airport at 1pm on Monday.

  4. Tescan has sourced a replacement ion pump and it may ship tomorrow or Monday at the latest. Tescan engineer will follow with the installation as soon as possible

  5. Tescan engineer fixed the FIB control board issue, but the FIB vacuum was still not good to run the gun. A new ion pump is needed. Unfortunately, there is no ion pump in stock. Tescan is trying to find a new one. Waiting for update. FIB will not be available this week. SEM is OK to use

  6. Still pumping. Vacuum is recovering very slowly. Tescan engineer will monitor in the weekend and be back on campus on Monday. Meanwhile, he is trying to get a new ion pump available on Monday.

  7. 1) Pumping did not go well. vacuum is not fully recovered yet.
    2) Tescan engineer continues to work on the instrument tomorrow.

  8. Here are some updates:
    1) talked with Tescan service and sales team which agrees to send an experienced engineer on campus to fix the problem
    2) Tescan agreed to ship FIB gun parts to UCI before a PO is issued
    3) Parts received yesterday
    4) The engineer started to work on Tescan FIB this morning. IGP and FIN source are replaced. Pumpimg now.
    5) It will take at least two days to get the FIB up depending on the progress.
    Thanks for your understanding!

  9. Tescan engineer did a remote test yesterday, but he could not solve the problem. He checked the log files and found that FIB column vacuum might have a problem. An on-site visit will be needed, waiting for scheduling the visit.
