President

Elizabeth Chiu

swe.uci.president@gmail.com

My name is Elizabeth Chiu, and I am a third-year mechanical engineering student. I had the privilege of serving as Outreach Co-Chair at SWE UCI this past year, and I am extremely honored to serve as the President this year. Outside of SWE, I am also an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for a freshman introductory engineering course, in which students acquire hands-on experience by designing and building a rover or fitness tracker. My latest hobby is 3D printing, and I am extremely interested in robotics and its applications in medicine and theme parks. I joined SWE in my freshman year, and since then, this organization has become my home on campus. The friendships, professional development, and sense of community I have experienced through SWE have been a remarkable element of my college experience, and I am beyond excited to contribute to SWE UCI’s growth and development. I hope to cultivate a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone at SWE with the hopes that they benefit from our organization as much as I have.

Previously, I have served as our section’s Social Chair and I am extremely excited to take on the role of Vice President this year! Being a part of SWE has allowed me to develop my leadership and teamwork skills, as well as given me access to an incredible network of peers and working professionals. Through SWE, I have grown immensely as an individual and as an aspiring future engineer. I am also involved in UCI’s Solar Airplane Project and am a member of Tau Beta Pi. My personal hobbies include crocheting, movie watching, and cooking!

Treasurer

Valentina Garret

swe.uci.treasurer@gmail.com

Hi! My name is Valentina Garrett and I am a fourth-year Chemical Engineering major with a minor in Biomedical Engineering! I served previously as a Corporate Co-Chair in the 2020-2021 term, and I’m excited to return as this year’s Treasurer. SWE has allowed me to grow so much personally and professionally, so I love giving back to this organization and connecting with all the wonderful people involved. On campus, I am also involved in a BME lab that focuses on fluorescence microscopy. Outside of school I sell crochet & embroidery projects as well as play volleyball! You can also find me trying new food and boba places in Orange County.

Secretary

Emily Doan

swe.uci.secretary@gmail.com

My name is Emily Doan and I am a third-year Computer Science major. I was previously the Marketing Chair for our UC Irvine SWE section and I am beyond delighted to serve as this year’s Secretary. SWE holds a prominent place in my heart as I discovered my home at UCI upon joining this organization. The message that SWE promotes to inspire underrepresented groups in STEM speaks to me, especially as a first-gen female minority going into CS. Besides SWE and my current academics, I am also a part of the Information and Computer Sciences Student Council (ICSSC) and I enjoy creating art, going on photoshoots, and trying new boba places during my free time!

Daria Headshot

Corporate Co-Chair

INN Lead

Daria Shkel

swe.uci.corporatechair@gmail.com

My name is Daria Shkel and I am a 4th year Electrical Engineering major. I am the outgoing SWE UCI Funding chair and this year I am beyond excited and honored to continue on as the new Corporate Co-chair, INN lead! I was introduced to SWE my first week at UCI and the club instantly resonated with me as a female engineer striving to empower fellow STEM students. I absolutely loved both the message of the organisation as well as the community surrounding it and am therefore so excited to continue helping it grow in my new position. As INN lead and a Corporate Co-Chair I look forward to creating opportunities for members to network with industry professionals, which will hopefully help them obtain future internships and job opportunities, especially during this time of economic uncertainty. Aside from SWE I am a dedicated member of two research labs working on the design and fabrication of various MEMS technologies. In between academics and SWE I enjoy drawing, dancing, hiking (or other outdoorsy athletic things), and puzzles. Solving problems is my greatest thrill so I’m always down to do an escape room or a riddle!

Corporate Co-Chair

Professional Development Lead

Aleen Meldosian

swe.uci.corporatechair@gmail.com

My name is Aleen Meldosian and I’m a 5th-year transfer Biomedical Engineering major. I am very excited to be this year’s Corporate Co-chair, Professional Development lead! Joining this wonderful organization has definitely made me feel welcome after transferring to UCI. There are so many resources for professional development, most of which I have found through SWE, that have helped me grow immensely in such a short amount of time. It can be quite overwhelming when you are beginning your professional career, so I hope I can alleviate some worries by providing resources through workshops and networking events. I am also part of the Alpha Eta Mu Beta (AEMB) National Biomedical Engineering Honors Society as the Fundraising Chair. Aside from SWE and academics, I love spending my free time doing something creative! I really enjoy crafting and sewing, but my all-time favorite activity is baking. I have a huge sweet tooth, so I am always looking for an excuse to try a new recipe!
