New hobby

A recent reread of the classic Book What Is Possible with Your Life, the author answers this question with a picture. There are actually three stages of interest in our general concept:

The first stage is sensory interest. Sensory interest without the addition of thinking, the brain is like a ball, who will kick a kick, I will roll where. Sensory interest is a temporary pleasure, not a capacity.

The second stage is conscious interest. When conscious interest is added to our thinking, we have a more lasting interest and can focus on one area, which forms a circuit in the brain and generates capacity. It allows us to stop relying on external stimuli and take control of ourselves. When we change the source of our interests from external to internal, we have an internal source that makes us interesting. People who enjoy themselves are the best.

The third stage is interest. An interest is an interest that is more consistent with ambition and values. Interests and interests are not only interests, but also the management techniques that we use to turn sensory interests into abilities through learning, seek platforms for value through ability, and find the most powerful career among various values. It is the most determined dance step that a person can jump out of in an uncertain fate.

So, whether in the job or at the time of dating, this column if you like to write a “reading, travel, Internet, listening to music, watch movies”, the basic sensory interest – so you answer so, belong to is to admit that he is no ability, also have no ambition, at a discount greatly affect each other branch.

What is in my BRAIN?

Hello everyone! This is my “brain”! It consists of five parts, all of which are very important to me, and together they make me. I will introduce you to each of these parts in sequence in the following paragraphs.

Family & Friends:
This part satisfies more emotional needs. We need to share happiness or sadness with other people, which can be a good way to relieve stress or gain happiness. I love doing activities together with others – reviewing for exams or celebrating holidays.

Study & Work:
This part of the study is made up of lectures and assignments. This is where I store all the knowledge and skills I learned in the UCI courses. In addition, after entering the university, all the study time needs to be arranged and planned by myself, which has fully exercised my time management, which is also a very important part of the study. Work mainly refers to other important tasks other than learning tasks, such as Zotblog preparing and future participant applications and plans making as a Zotblogger.

Delicious Foods:
Foods and drinks are basic needs for not only living but also enjoyments. Having delicious food is always a great way to de-stress, whether watching a movie or enjoying it with friends and family while enjoying food, I love both! People will always restrict their diet for a variety of reasons including weight loss. High-calorie food like ramen, ice cream, fried chicken, Szechuan dishes, boba tea… I would say just forget the calories and celebrate your happiness!

Hobbies:
If I can no more concentrate on studying and need some relaxation, or simply have some extra time, then I will spend them on my hobbies. The hobbies I choose to spend time on change over time. My favorite hobbies lately are playing badminton and playing various board games.

Travel:
I am always ready for travelings – China, U.S., Canada… I am already preparing for this summer vacation, but due to the restrictions of the epidemic, I don’t know if I can actually do it. New environment, new culture, new friends, how exciting!

The Pieces of Your Puzzle

I imagine that the significant elements of our daily lives fit together like a puzzle, the pieces relating to each other to some extent and constituting our individual selves. The puzzle differs widely from person to person, but the three major pieces of my puzzle are academics, family, and hobbies. I placed these pieces along the center of the brain map, with other related puzzle pieces branching out above or below them.

The first element, academics, is most relevant to my status as a full-time student. I have strived for academic success throughout my time in school, and it is a major factor that I dedicate most of my time to. Branching off from this core puzzle piece are grades and my major. Grades are a fundamental part of academic success that many students often experience pressure to maintain. Furthermore, as an Undeclared student who had no clear direction at the beginning of this academic year, I have been giving thought to the major that I would like to pursue.

A second aspect that I consider important is family. Spending time with my immediate and extended family during birthday parties on the weekends has created an abundance of cherished memories for me. The same applies to gatherings with friends, a puzzle piece that branches off from family. One essential part of any such gathering is the food that we can make and enjoy together.

Thirdly, the way that I spend my free time outside of the classroom or family gatherings is critical for my own relaxation. I have found games and TV shows to be the most entertaining for me. It may be interesting to think how similar or different your own brain map is from mine. This activity is an effective way to examine what aspects of your life are vital for you and perhaps what you are most grateful for.

Your friendly neighborhood Undeclared major,

Sabrina

New Hobbies, What’s Your’s?

One of the few things that I’ve noticed around most of the friend groups that I’ve been hanging around is, UCI Is commonly spilt up into two groups. There are those who already have their own hobbies/interest and those who are in search of on. Personally I fall under both, as I already have a hobby but I am still up to try new things that’s fun and interesting. Speaking of new, I haven’t been able to keep track of all the shows that have been popping up here and there, but I’m loving it. Before any of you flame me for this, I honestly just want to say that it’s been the most commonly asked question and I’m going to ask it “What episode of Euphoria are you on”,I’m currently on season 1 episode 4 and for starters I’m not a band wagon, I genuinely consider it a very good show.

Also got this book called “They Both Die In The End”, the title in itself basically says what the book is about, if any of you are curious. Most of you might be wondering why I decided to read a book where the main character dies in the end, but hear me out. The book itself is about two character who have 24 hours to live and the book in itself is big and I was curious as to what they could possible do in 24 hours. The way I look at it is what would you do if you were in their shoes and I couldn’t come up with an answer, so I decided to read it because it gives me a chance to look at life through a different lens.(I’ll stop fan grilling now XD)

Although I would love to sit here and continue to talk your ear off, I’m sure many of you have better things to do. I don’t really have a decent knowledge when it comes to music, so I’m open to many suggestions so I’ll be leaving my insta if any of you have any recommendations. Think of it like me helping you, help me find a hobby in music. If you’re wondering what kind of music I listen to, I love all genre’s and listen to anything as long as I like it(I don’t discriminate).

This is your favorite blogger jamming out and for most interested in recommending K-pop, my bias is V

Immersing Filipino Culture with Kababayan at UCI

Cultural clubs have always been something I have been interested in pursuing. I am Filipino-American but have never felt like I have fully immersed in learning about the Filipino culture. In previous blogs, I have written and given glimpses of becoming involved with Kababyan at UCI. This club is an organization at UCI that emphasizes the academic, cultural, political, social, and community parts of the Pilipinx experience. Kaba has many different programs that I have participated in to explore my interest in Filipino culture.

Kababayan at UCI has a range of programs, workshops, and meetings that focus on the different 5 different pillars (academic, cultural, political, social, and community). Programs that are available to general members include intramurals, academic mentorship programs, alumni panels, social programs (general meetings, k-fams, etc.), and cultural programs. One I have been very involved with is the winter quarter internship program. For 10 weeks, interns get to learn about the behind-the-scenes of Kaba by shadowing 2 board members, learning leadership skills, and building new relationships with the board members. My experience with this internship has been helpful and amazing so far. I have learned so much more about leadership and the tasks of the board members I intern under. Another program that has just begun this quarter is the Philipinx-American Culture Night (PACN). This program runs throughout the winter and spring quarters as it prepares general members to perform cultural dances and other activities towards the middle of the spring quarter. Within PACN, a general member can be in logistical and performance suites. Logistical suites include creating programs, costumes, commercials, and props. Performance suites are the types of cultural dances, skits, and choir.

Being part of Kababyan at UCI has opened doors to many different opportunities. Not only do I get to immerse myself in Filipino culture, but I’m also able to socialize with other students with the same interests as me. I’ve created so many great memories with board members, fellow interns, and other general members. Even before becoming a wintern, I enjoyed attending general meetings each week as each meeting was a topic that I could learn something new.

If you’re interested in coming out to future meetings, they are every Thursday at 7 pm in the Dr. White room at the Cross Cultural Center. If you’d like to learn more about Kaba, head to their Instagram @kabaatuci. I hope to see you there!
