Meet the Officers
President: Matt Laffin
Matt is a 4th-year graduate student in the Earth System Science department at UC Irvine. He graduated from Oregon State University with a bachelor’s in Climate Science. His current research is understanding the effect of surface wind on melt and ice shelf stability in Antarctica. This picture was taken in January 2019 somewhere in the San Jacinto Wilderness in California.
Vice President: Ana Sena
Ana is a 5th year graduate student in the Earth System Sciences department at UC Irvine. She graduated from the University of Sao Paulo with a bachelor’s degree in Meteorology. She is currently researching the causes of interannual variability of the South American Monsoon, and how South America’s climate may change in the future. Secretary: Gracie Wong
Zach is a fifth year graduate student in the Earth System Science department at UC Irvine. He graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor’s degree in Meteorology and a minor in Climatology. His current research is working on improving the modeling of sea ice in global scale models to have a more accurate representation of longwave radiation being emitted and absorbed by sea ice and the surrounding ocean.
