About Lisa Gibbs, MD
Dr. Gibbs is the Chief of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology and the Ronald Reagan Endowed Chair of Geriatric Medicine at UC Irvine. She has an extensive and successful history of developing multifaceted programs, bringing together collaborators from both university and community based organizations. Her grant leadership experience is best exemplified by her role as developer and PI of the DW Reynold Physicians in Training grant (2009-2013) the HRSA Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) collaboration, C3OA (2015-2019), and the currents HRSA GWEP program, TAG TEAM (2019-2023).
As Medical Director of the UC Irvine SeniorHealth Center, a primary care and consultative practice, she has led the development of a number of innovative programs, including a geriatric focused Patient Centered Medical Home; geriatric sub-specialty services, including memory assessment, comprehensive assessment and oncology; telemedicine – inclusive of tele-pharmacy and tele-consults; and a program to support caregivers of patients with dementia through social work interns supervised by a community based organization.
She has been the recipient of academic and leadership training beginning with the Geriatric Academic Career Award (GACA) from the US Department of Health and Human Services. She was awarded a fellowship from the University of California Office of the President’s Center (UCOP) for the Health Quality and Innovation (CQHI) program and is currently a representative to a University of California wide Primary Care Collaborative. In addition, she has developed an expertise and national recognition in the field of elder abuse and currently serves as the Director of UC Irvine’s Center of Excellence in Elder Abuse and Neglect, which provides education and technical assistance regionally, nationally, and abroad. More recently, she assumed the medical directorship of UC Irvine Health’s ACO and founding the program on geriatric care principles, with a particular emphasis on social determinants of health. As a leader in the community, she is a member of the Steering Committee for the OC Strategic Plan for Aging (OCSPA), a core group charged with the oversight of planning for aging services for Orange County. Perhaps most importantly, she maintains an active geriatric medicine practice which provides the foundation of all other academic activities–the health and wellbeing of each and every patient.
