The Scribe

“No mother could give more.” An art submission by Melody Lee.

The Scribe is an undergraduate publication focused on the medical humanities. It provides a creative space for members of the UCI student body and community to discuss their experiences in medicine, whether that be as an aspiring healthcare provider, current patient, or practicing health professional.

The Scribe takes inspiration from the growing field of narrative medicine. This crossroads between medicine and the humanities challenges healthcare professionals to reflect upon their experiences through the creation of humanities-based work such as writing, visual art, and even music. However, it is not limited to only healthcare professionals, and in fact encourages expression from patients and other members of the health community. It gives everyone an opportunity to tell their medical story, and by extension listen to those of others.

Through our work, we hope to contribute to the growing narrative medicine conversation, and we highly encourage you to send in a submission! Accepted mediums range from art to poetry to narratives to photography!
