Andrei Cumpanas: 2022-2024
Andrei is a urology resident at UC Irvine, and a graduate from “Victor Babes” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Timisoara, Romania. His areas of interest include artificial intelligence use in urologic imaging, incorporating virtual reality into everyday surgery for better patient outcomes and better prediction of the intra-operative anatomy, understanding the intricate mechanisms of the urinary microbiome and finding ways to improve the management of urolithiasis. He is interested in a career in academic urology, which would allow him to balance caring for complicated cases, giving to others what he has been taught while also continuing research in order to constantly improve patient care. Andrei is honored to have had the opportunity of learning everyday from worldwide experts in the field of urology. Outside of medicine, Andrei is a passionate jogger, enjoys cycling and exploring the beautiful coastal towns of sunny Southern California. During the second year of his successful LIFT Fellowship, Andrei matched for urology residency at UC Irvine in 2024.

Philip Bucur: 2012-2013
Philip completed his undergraduate studies at UC Irvine and attended medical school at UC Irvine, and is now a board-certified urologist in Fountain Valley, CA. He became interested in urology during his clinical clerkships and completed the year-long LIFT fellowship conducting clinical, translational, and educational research with Dr. Landman. He also completed the MS-BATS program. His accomplishments during his fellowship year include initiating and leading a prospective comparative trial, receiving two research grants from the Foundation for the Advancement of Minimally Invasive Surgery, being recognized by the UC Irvine faculty for distinction in research, co-founding the Department of Urology Summer Surgery Program for high school students, and presenting his research at the 2013 annual AUA conference.
