Who We Are

SEARCH comprises graduate and undergraduate Public Health students who are committed to bettering the health and well-being of the UCI campus and it’s surrounding neighboring communities through public health research and community health initiatives. The Lab is spearheaded by Dean Bernadette Boden-Albala whose research focuses on cardiometabolic health disparities , social networks, healthy equity, community-based participatory research, and diversity and inclusion in clinical trials.

What We Do

RESEARCH

Dean Boden-Albala’s research explicitly investigates the ways in which one’s surroundings, including social, cultural, psychological, political, and economic circumstances interact to create and/or prevent health, disease, and well-being, rather than treating such determinants as mere background to biomedical phenomena. SEARCH conducts activities to support the research of Dean Boden-Albala which includes literature review, study recruitment, data collection, intervention delivery, data management and analyses, writing abstracts and publications, and much more! Our lab provides a hands-on public health research experience in which students will have the opportunity to work closely with research staff, community health organizations, and study participants.

SERVE THE COMMUNITY: UCI Public Health Student Volunteer Core

Within the SEARCH lab we also connect students to volunteer opportunities on-campus and off-campus, within the communities we work with. Join our UCI Public Health Student Volunteer Core (UCIPHSVC) to gain community services hours, face to face interactions with the community, and connect to local community health organizations.
