This Saturday, April 23, 2016, at 12:00 PM, Anteater Racing will be unveiling the 2016 SAE fleet including Raider, Savage, and Electra at 12:00 PM at parking lot 16H on the UC Irvine campus. The unveiling will be followed by a free lunch along with a meet and greet session with the engineering students who designed and fabricated the cars. It will be a fun event with great people and great cars so come out and join us this Saturday.

Savage should be running by this weekend! As the days wind down and the dust settles on our determined Formula team, a race car is beginning to take shape. With the chassis completely finished, all of the team’s focus is being directed to getting the body, suspension, and powertrain completed to get the car ready for its unveiling this Saturday. More importantly, the team wants to get Savage running to get the car on the test track as soon as possible. The competition is 54 days away and the more time the team has to test the car’s limits, the more prepared they will be when they show up to compete in Lincoln.

After several weeks of hard work getting the chassis fabricated, the Electra team has started cutting and shaping aluminum sheet metal for their car’s body. Each panel is being rolled on our English wheel and once all of the panels meet the team’s body design specifications, the panels will be riveted together. In the meantime, the rest of the team is making progress on other critical components of the car. The suspension is nearly complete with the spindles, tie rods, and hub adapters all ready to be installed. The drivetrain is on the home stretch with only the chain needing to be installed. Manufacturing and assembly of battery and control systems are still in the works and will all start coming together in the near future. There’s nothing like spending a sunny Saturday playing outside in the dirt. Yesterday, our Raider team got to work on prepping a local hiking trail for their car to tear up. They set up several features along the trail including ditches, breaking bumps, rock crawls, and a dirt jump. While part of the team worked on the trail, other members worked on testing the car to get the CVT dialed. Today the team plans to head back out to the trail to test out Raider’s suspension on the features they built. Check back here later and follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see how the day went!

An SAE Southern California Section Meeting will be held April 12, 2016 at University of California, Irvine. At the event, a Mazda Engineer will describe the design and features of the 2016 Mazda MX 5. In addition, the UCI Formula SAE cars will be put on display. The event will begin at 6:00pm in the Harut Barsamian Colloquia Room (EH 2430). All are welcome so come show your support for Anteater Racing!
