Michael Dennin – Vice Provost, Teaching & Learning and Dean, Division of Undergraduate Education:

Dear Undergraduates,

As spring break winds down and you gear up for the Spring quarter, we hope you and your families are keeping safe and healthy. As instruction starts, here are two important items:

1)      UCI Academic Senate has approved a temporary change to the P/NP policy. For full details, please check with the Academic Advising/Student Affairs Office in your School. If you are unsure who to contact, information on advising offices is available here.  We strongly encourage students to start the quarter by taking courses for a grade, and with the new flexibility, to switch their grade option to P/NP only as needed.

2)      Ensure you carefully track all communications from your course instructors, and understand what mode they will be using to communicate. Though we are all being flexible, regular communication is key during this period. Always reach out to your instructors first with any questions, as they still are the ultimate authority on the expectations and policies for their course.

For any other questions or concerns, please start with your School’s Academic Advising/Student Affairs Office, and you can always contact our office as needed.
