The Angstrom Evaporator status

Hi, All,

The Evaporator was down in the weekend of Aug 31 due to the CTI 8200 compressor failure. We tried to purchase a new CTI compressor, but the lead time is 8 weeks that is too long. We contacted several compressor vendors asking for the quotes for a new compressor and/or refurbished one. Finally we decided to purchase a M125 compressor from Trillium. The order was placed on today, 9/11.

We found that the cryopump has an issue with He decontamination and needs to be replaced. The order for a new pump is placed on Oct. 1 and will arrive in a few days.

The new compressor will arrive on Oct. 2.

Users could expect that the Evaporator will be up running in the earlier next week, 7th of Oct.

The new compressor and cryopump were installed. The system was regenerated successfully. The Evaporator was up running on Oct. 11th, Friday.

Feel free to let me know if you have questions.

Thanks,

Magellan is down on April 5

Hi, Magellan users,

The Magellan is down now. The source beam is not stable. FEI engineers will continue to troubleshoot this issue tomorrow.
Please reschedule your experiment for tonight and tomorrow sessions. It is likely the source need to be replaced. We will find out  with proper tools tomorrow.
Sorry about the inconvenience. I will keep you updated on the status.

Thanks,

XL30 was down on Jan 19, 2017 and up on Jan 24

Hi, XL30 users,

The XL30 is down now due to the vac and chiller issue.

FEI service was called for the vac disabled issue on Jan 19. We  removed the moisture in the gas lines and replaced the tubing between compressor and instrument.  On Jan 20, we found that the chiller temperature control had an issue. The cooling water was over cooled and water drops were condensed on the cooling lines. We trouble-shot and ordered the thermostat part for replacement. It will arrive next Monday or Tuesday. I will keep you updated.

On Jan 24, the new thermostat was delivered and installed into the chiller. The chiller was cleaned and re-filled with fresh distilled water. The XL30 is up running now.

Thanks,

Qiyin

Magellan status

Hi, All Magellan Users,

On Oct. 10, a service call was made to deal with users report about imaging shifting. The service engineer came in and found that the e-beam source filament was not conditioned well (under heat) and current was too small (92uA). The more heating current was input to extract more current.  We would wait for more current and more stable.

Oct. 12, the e-beam current 180uA was observed. The source alignment was performed till 4:30pm.  Another service was planned on this Friday Oct 14.

Thanks,

Qiyin
