Has Trump Really Gone Bonkers?
Today, Trump doubled down on including cultural targets. Despite yesterday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that they were not going to be hit. That’s because that would be war crimes under international law. By including them it is easy to interpret that as including religious targets. Nobody has discounted that in the US. Trump has essentially launched us into a new Crusade against the Shia Muslim religion. That accounts for the militias that are planning attacks against us. Trump has no foresight to reflexive actions. This puts the US cultural and religious sites into the enemies target list.
I’m sure that Trump had not imagined the days of mourning, demonstrations, and war propaganda that are occurring in Iran and also in Iraq, which is majority Shia, also. This puts tremendous pressure on the government and military in these countries to act. Iraq has been balancing Shia, Sunni, and Kurdish factions, which is now in danger.
Today also, Trump threatened our ally, Iraq, with a bill for billions of dollars if they kick us out. Since we are there at their request to fight ISIS, it seems they have a perfect right to request our leaving. Can we charge them for the buildings and airport we made there? A realty agent like Trump would think that. But most of them were for our own protection. Then Trump also threatened sanctions against Iraq.
So, here we are at days 3, 4, and 5 into a new year, and a new decade. And Trump has entered us into a war in the Middle East, against the entire Shia alliance. Nobody in the US called for this. Congress never approved ANY of this.
Trump had withdrawn us from a nuclear non-proliferation agreement with Iran, which guaranteed at least a decade or 15 years of nuclear safety with Iran. Now, Iran says that there are no limits on its nuclear developments. Estimates were that Iran was only a few years away from developing nuclear weapons. They also have been developing long range missiles.
This is crucial decade for the world to make serious cuts in greenhouse gas emissions. Not only has Trump withdrawn from the Paris agreements, but is doing all he can to increase US emissions by ending positive federal programs, and opposing State programs. The record heat, drought, and wildfires in Australia are a serious and poignant warning of our climate change future.
Even dictators have to arrange backing with the military, foreign relations, and the commercial-industrial complex. Yet Trump acts totally without coordination or approval by any of these. This is the true definition of “bonkers”.
We have a 25th Amendment to handle this. We are only three days into this very dangerous chaos which will have guaranteed and serious attacks on Americans, and many, many opportunities for Trump escalations. Let’s end this now, boot Trump, and apologize to our allies and the world that we had a President who went bonkers, but have now restored order. We won’t have this opportunity for long.
