Astrology and the Trump Presidency

Astrology and the Trump Presidency

Update:  Trump has not realized the importance of this event, and did not resign today, as suggested.

We are one day away from the most important Astrological event of our times.  That’s right, the alignment of Jupiter and Saturn to form the Christmas Star or Star of Bethlehem.  Why would I drag the President into this?  Because he has violated the First Amendment separation of Church and State as a basis of his political support.  But he has gone far beyond this in suggesting on every occasion recently that he is the “Chosen One”.

I strongly suspect that the Trumper will draw upon this celestial event to boost that belief, or to encourage others to do so.  We know that Trump has been fascinated again with his Supreme ability to pardon anybody, and how to use this to his advantage, especially with his shady election past and present and Christmas future as well.

We’re old enough to remember President Ronald Reagan and his use of Nancy’s astrologer to find propitious days for given events.  Trump knows that he needs a pardon for his federal crimes.  His lawyers or his past AG may have led him to believe that he can pardon himself.  Now is where President “Tricky Dick” Nixon comes in.  He resigned (to avoid impeachment), and had VP Gerald Ford become President to make his pardon stick.  Trump can’t risk not being fully pardoned, so he is looking for the right day to resign and be pardoned.  What more auspicious day than the Winter Solstice, December 21, with the Christmas Star that last occurred 800 years ago.

Instead of an act of ignominy, Trump would convert his resignation and pardon into an event of Biblical Proportions, that would cosmically prove that he indeed is the Chosen One.  Since he will no longer be President in 31 days, he will not be able to exercise his powers for which he is viewed by some as being chosen.  The fact that 78% of Republicans or his voters believe that the election must have been rigged, as he alone claims, rests on the belief that he is the Chosen One.

Trump has been using the word ‘miracle’ in all triumphs which are scientific against the Coronavirus, and claiming that he was the chosen one to reveal the progress, even though it was scientific results known to all.  This isn’t just a personal ego boost for himself, but a conscientious program to convince his religious supporters that he is the chosen one.  This is the oldest ploy of world leadership.  The Pharoahs were gods.  The royalty of Europe had the divine right of kings.  Trump took the scientifically developed anti-viral mix Regeneron, and became the chosen one to reveal this miracle to the world.  He claimed the vaccines were miracles, despite their having been developed over decades of antiviral and AIDS research.  The miracle drugs of Remdesivir and Dexamethasone were developed a long time before he took office.  The hydroxychloroquine drugs were developed for malaria a long time ago, and are still ineffective against the Coronavirus.  Trump again claimed that his superior genes would have led to his rapid recovery, even without Regeneron.  It reminds us when his Navy doctor said that Trump had the genes to live 200 years, undoubtedly something Trump told him to say, and reminiscent of the divine right of Kings.  Since his uncle was an engineer at MIT, Trump has claimed that he also is an innate genius.  This is eugenics, and leads to racism.

The really sad consequence of the belief that he is the Chosen One is that believers follow his leads on ignoring standard pandemic safety protocols.  While Trump thought he was uniquely protected by White House testing of anyone near him, his flouting of protocols led all of his vulnerable followers to enhance their risks.  If there was to be a Chosen One, it wouldn’t have been the corrupt, unsympathetic, and immoral Trump who has clocked more than 22,000 lies while in office to the people who he has been elected to serve.  Trump’s immoral flouting is essentially universal for Trump, topped off by having his unqualified Dr. Atlas taking over the Coronavirus Task Force, and another appointee, Mr. Alexander, urging people to get infected to achieve herd immunity, at an enormous cost in lives, medical injuries, and human suffering, compounded by the necessary economic losses in people’s lives.  By rejecting that approach, we have “saved the lives of Millions of Registered Voters, Lenny”(Ghostbusters).  Trump is still throwing superspreader events at the White House and State Department, which have seen most of his lieutenants and family infected, as well as many Republican leaders and donors who aren’t even contact traced.  Then there are his self-serving rallies which have led to far more than 30,000 infections and over 700 deaths.  There also are the shortages of PPE and slowing down of testing and consequently contact tracing.  All of these have led the uninformed to flout protocols themselves.  The use of masks and social distancing cost nothing and are simple acts, but protect jobs, businesses, rentals and houses for tens of millions of Americans.

This has reminded me of an event 50 years ago, when I went to buy my first new car.  I asked the salesman about the safety of the VW Beetle under consideration, and I got the answer “when your time is up, your time is up”.  I prefer “God helps those that help themselves”.  It is really our own responsibility to protect ourselves and others.  Trusting to Fate is really a pantheistic belief, and I am afraid that some of Trump’s followers succumb to that, as they might even to astrology.

The coincidence of the planets is really simple physics going back to the beginning of the solar system.  In the accretion disk of gas and dust, anything with any vertical velocities perpendicular to the disk would get that vertical component slowed down by the friction with dust every time it crossed the disk.  The planets would then all form in the plane of the ecliptic.  Since the planets move with different yearly orbital periods, they would be seen crossing other’s obits every so often.

Of course, I could turn this around and say that the rare astrological event was a sign that a bad president is cosmically fated to be defeated, since this occurs just a month before his reign is to come to an end.  On the other hand, it is clear that voters helped themselves to get rid of a bad president.

Oddly, this celestial event occurs just days after the US Space Force is being formed and its troops called “Guardians of the High Frontier”.  This is because “Guardians of the Galaxy” is already under copywrite to Marvel.  We know that Trump was always looking to the skies, like when he stared directly at the solar eclipse without goggles, which should have told us that he would not be a good President if we had a pandemic.  But now Trump won’t be President when his rushed 2024 landing on the moon (and beyond) would occur, although nobody thought that that schedule was possible in the first place.  NASA projects have been delayed by the Coronavirus disruptions.  We also observe that Trump has named his one plan to end the pandemic “Operation Warp Speed”.  He is completely absorbed by childhood science fiction.

I should end this with a statement of Cosmic Wisdom.  Let’s try Shakespeare, from Julius Caesar:  Cassius to Brutus, who fears that Caesar will declare himself monarch of Rome, oddly appropriate today:  “The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings.”  Yet Trump is trying in all ways conceivable to declare himself President in a lost election, and convincing others that his Presidency is pre-ordained.  He is absorbed by this when pandemic leadership is most needed in the face of the greatest Winter of Our Discontent (Richard III and John Steinbeck).

Congress finally finished a $900 billion relief package, which is balanced by a more infectious form of the Coronavirus in the UK, which is balanced by the Moderna vaccine shipping out.
