April 9. New Physical Coronavirus Problems

April 9.  New Physical Coronavirus Problems

New studies are showing more difficulties and susceptibilities to the Coronavirus.

First, serious infections in Australia and Iran show that summer will not kill the Coronavirus.  I still have hopes that fresh dispersing air and ultraviolet sunlight will make the beaches safe this summer, if we can get to them.  On the other hand, Southern California will have May Gray and June Gloom cutting the UV light.

It has been shown that UV lamps kill viruses, and that you can use them on the tops of rooms without directing any light downward, and the room circulation will kill the viruses.  They also will empty out a hospital room and turn on several strong UV lights to sterilize it.  The University of Chicago Hospital uses small UV ovens to sterilize used masks, although they don’t reuse them in Coronavirus patient rooms.

Second.  It has been shown that smoking, and possibly vaping, increase the capability of ACE-2 to attach to the Coronavirus.  ACE-2 leads the virus to the cell receptors, where it turns the cell into a virus factory.  In China, serious cases occurred twice as often in smokers as in non-smokers.  About half of Chinese men smoke, and almost no women.

Third.  Obesity is a serious factor in leading to complications, and Americans are obese, says a French doctor.  The US now has more cases than Italy, Spain, and France, combined.

Fourth.  The ICU serious cases can lead to lung or brain damage.

Eugene Scalia, Secretary of Labor, said that there are 6.6 million newly unemployed. Families First Act pays sick leave from small businesses.  The Cares Act pays unnemployment benefits. Gig workers now get unemployment benefits.  Benefits are $600 weekly.  The total unemployed are now 17 million.  This is about 10% of the labor force.

In Louisiana, a minimum of 40% of patients are leaving the ventilators well.

The health agencies are doing a nationwide survey of the differences between racial susceptibilities and treatment from the Coronavirus.

California published its results, and they do not show significant racial bias.
