Trump’s Child Hostages: Almost Americans and Sick Children

Trump has made DACA and DREAMers into political hostages. He has done the same for needy children who need health care under the four month defunct CHIP program. Comparatively, this would qualify him as by far the most fearsome terrorist on the earth in his use of human hostages.

Members of DACA and DREAMers were brought here as children under age 16 without any ability to make a legal choice by themselves. They are innocent of any violation of immigration law. Their immediate families may contain siblings or a parent who are born American citizens. They constitute a valuable and future educated resource for businesses at a time of a minimum of unemployed and promised expansion, and with a 50% cut on immigrants.

The 800,000 DACA enrollees are mostly of working age, and highly valued by their employers, who lobby to keep the program. They program also allows them to obtain college aid to become highly educated and more valuable members of our society. We thought that Trump ended DACA in order to force Congress to make these workers permanent. Nobody thought that Trump would turn them into human hostages or shields in his political maneuverings.

Nobody addresses the remainder of the DREAMers, the rest of whom are still in school. Previous estimates were that there were 1.4 million, 1.7 million, or 2.0 million DREAMers. This week, a surprising new estimate came forth that there were twice as many, at 3.6 million. This would make them about 1/3 of the 11.5 million undocumented immigrants.

This is an appropriate time to point out that Trump himself is a child of an chain immigrant mother from Scotland. On his father’s side, he is a second generation descendent of a chain immigrant from Germany. In his immediate family, two of his three wives were immigrants. The First Lady is an immigrant, who chain migrated her parents and sister.  Four of Trump’s five beloved children were born to immigrants. All of his actions to cut out immigrant programs, as well as his traumatizing DREAMers as political footballs, betray his entire family’s history. Plus, if you had to pick a President who acted least in terms of American values, history, and the Constitution, it would of course be Trump.

There are 9 MILLION needy children getting health care under CHIP. They have been relying on left over or state funds since October 1, almost four months. Neglected health care costs lives, and leads to problems that limit their productivity in financial terms. It can spread childhood diseases that should have been prevented by immunizations. It can interrupt their education, and participation in extracurricular activities. It can pull their parents out of their own jobs. For a President caring about his economic glory, this is one of the worst things he can do. But using children who are needy and can get sick, or have chronic problems, as a political hostage, is unforgivable.

Are their no Republicans in Congress or in the White House who are willing to stand up and advise the President of his cruelty?
