Nov. 8 Orange County and National Update

Enough has changed in a day to justify an update.  Plus, you can no longer separate politics from vote counts.

MSNBC is saying that Matt Whitaker’s appointment to Acting Attorney General is illegal, since he was not approved by the Senate, and is not in the line of succession.  Anything he decides is inapplicable and illegal.  CNN reports that people in the White House did not know about the opinions he wrote, or what he said on TV and on radio.  Yet somehow they managed to pick somebody who gives the President superpowers.

Jeff Sessions left a departing shot by extremely limiting the ability of the Justice Department to apply consent decrees to local police forces to reform treatment of minorities.

In CA 45th, R Mimi Walters lead yesterday over D Katie Porter of 6,074 went down to 4,637 tonight.

In CA 48th, D Harley Rouda’s lead yesterday over R incumbent Dana Rohrabacher of 3,602 increased to 4,756 tonight.

In CA 39th, R Young Kim has held her lead over D Gil Cisneros of 3,879 yesterday to 3,874 tonight.

317 House Districts moved more Democratic in midterm votes.

Democrats have picked up 335 state legislature seats, and maybe as many as 400.

The Democrats have picked up 30 seats now.  The D have 224 seats in the House, to R 198.  13 seats are still undecided according to fivethirtyeight.com.  1 is Solid D, 7 are Lean D, 2 are Tossups, and 3 are Likely R.  Taking the leans as good, would give 232 D to 201 R with 2 Tossups.

In Arizona, Senate candidate D Kyrsten Sinema has taken a 0.5% lead over R Martha McSally, 49.1% to 48.6%.

In the Florida Senate race, R Governor Rick Scott is only ahead by 0.19% over D incumbent Bill Nelson.  This qualifies for a hand recount.  We cannot fail to note that every R commenter from POTUS on down is claiming, without evidence, that as very D Broward County continues counting votes, there must be fraud (because Rs may lose their very narrow lead).  Guess who has filed suit and decided to start a Florida judicial investigation?  The very Governor and Senate Candidate himself:  Rick Scott.  Talk about blatant theft of an election.  Trump should be sued for slandering the Broward County registrar of voters.  Trump didn’t name that person, but called her “a woman”.  That screams misogyny.

Many votes still to count in all of these races.  Still 400,000 votes to count in Orange County.
