Why Trump Stayed at the White House for the Holidays
Imagine what Trump’s reception at Mar-a-Lago would have been like. Only multimillionaires are members. Seats for the holidays must be very expensive. They all took severe losses for the year on the market. Many are government contractors, and joined just to get influence with Trump, not for the best chocolate cake in the world.
Everyone Trump talked to would have complained about their market losses, and given him advice to stop it. Many would have said stop publicly pressuring the supposedly independent Federal Reserve. The contractors would have said to stop the shutdown, it was too disruptive, and employees were encountering terrible Christmases, missing housing payments, and running up credit card debts. Many employees were threatening to quit.
The public did not learn until January 2nd that Trump had a crazy notion that government contractors did not get paid until the job was done and approved, as Trump probably thinks occurs with his own houses. Contractors pay their employees monthly like everybody else, and even can add on cost overruns when needed. Anybody that Trump tried that argument on would have walked away saying “cuckoo”.
If you were Trump, god forbid, would you have met such a hostile and imploring audience?
