Senate Will Let the Defendant, Trump, Run His Own Trial

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who started rejecting White House direction, has now completely caved to allowing White House direction of the impeachment trial.  After weeks of Republicans complaining that the hearings did not have the protections of a trial, the Senate will now allow the defendant, Trump, to direct the trial.  This goes along with McConnell stealing the Obama Supreme Court appointment, and blocking Obama confirmation of dozens of federal justices.

Today, the House Judiciary Committee voted along party lines, 23-17 to approve the two charges of impeachment, and forward them to the House next week.  Watching the vote, I noticed that the Republicans on it were 15 white men and two white women.  The Democrats were a mixture of races and men and women.

I can no longer watch the sturm und drang of the impeachment hearings.  Was that the Republican plan, to drag them out and make them unwatchable?  Anyway, here are my short comments on them.

Republicans have now become the Grand Obfuscation Party.

The Republican’s defense is:  Nothing to see here.  Even if you saw something, it’s not a crime.  Even if a crime, it is not impeachable.  And, we can yell, talk fast, insult you, and play the victim.

Democrats:  you did the crime, too bad you will still do the time as President.

Republicans:  No crime, but will still do the time and repeat the crime.

Rs to Trump:  Keep helping yourself, because it helps us also.

The Republican Senate is the least unbiased Jury that is possible.

There is no smoking gun.  But, Trump is holding a gun, and there are empty shells at his feet, and a slew of witnesses and documents hiding behind him.

To Republican Senators:  please, please call Hunter Biden.  Investigating Hunter will bring up Trump’s emoluments, and his family’s foreign contacts and deals like Ivanka’s patent licenses

Hunter Biden has seen the suffering of the Ukrainian people from the Russian invasion.  He knows about the corrupt people that Rudy Giuliani is collaborating with.  He knows the hurt caused there by Trump’s statements and policies.  Remember, Democratic prosecutors should get equal questioning time.
