IHME Projects Rise in Covid Infections in Russia by November 1 to a Third of Previous Peak

The IHME estimates that 98% of those in the Russian Federation have already been infected by the Covid virus.

Only 3% of Russians are currently masking.  Only 51% are fully vaccinated which is projected to just rise to 53% by November 1.  The Russian Sputnik V vaccine is modeled as 67% effective against severe disease, and 44% against infections.  The Omicron invariants are estimated to be 90-100% of the cases.

Daily infections are projected by November 1 to rise to about 750,000 a day, with only about 18,000 a day reported, or 2.4%.

Hospitalizations for Covid on November 1 will rise to 38,000, of which 22% will be ICUs.  On Aug. 7, only about 5,900 are projected to be hospitalized.

Russian Total deaths are taken as the same as Reported Deaths.to November 1, at 796,000.  This is a projection of only about 8,000 more deaths from August 7, which is only a 1% increase.

Daily Covid deaths for the Russian Federation will rise to 232 per day by November 1, from the August 7 projections of 46 per day.

Life expectancy in Russia reached a peak in pre-pandemic 2019 at 73.3 years, breaking down to 78.2 years for women and 68.2 years for men.  For the US then, for both it was 78.86 years, and for China it was 76.9 years.

In 2020, after the start of the pandemic, Russian life expectancy fell by 1.8 years, and in 2021 it fell by another 1.5 years.  Dropping a total of 3.2 years it became 70.1 years in 2021.  That broke down as a life expectancy of 74.5 years for women, and 65.5 years for men.

US life expectancy in 2021 fell to 76.60 years in 2021, a loss of 2.26 years from 2019.  Deaths from the Delta and Omicron variants were almost all among unvaccinated people, and due to resistance to masking and mandates.  There also were serious inequities in health care leading to larger drops in life expectancy for Blacks and Hispanics.  See the article and link to the report on VCU news.
