March 6 US and Canada Coronavirus Cases

The world total of cases today exceeded 102,000.  There are almost 3,500 world-wide deaths from the Coronavirus.

Some new risk data:  the overall mortality risk from world data is 3.4%.  People are arguing that it would be much smaller if the 80% of mild cases have not been included, but they may have been counted.  For people over 80, the death rate is 14%.  For people in their 70s, it is 8%.  People with preexisting conditions are more vulnerable for a serious case, and dying.

290 million children worldwide are out of school because of the virus.  An LA Times editorial explored if keeping children out of school helps or hurts.

President Trump signed the $8.3 billion bill to address the Coronavirus.

Johns Hopkins now lists 338 US cases for today, meaning near midnight my time in California.

On the Grand Princess near San Francisco, 46 were tested, and that came back with 21 cases, composed of 19 crew and 2 passengers.  Since the crew is not quarantined in individual cabins as are the passengers, this is very hazardous for them.  If they are still serving the passengers food and cleaning, they are a danger to the passengers.  What we learned from the Diamond Princess almost 700 cases, is that it is a mistake to keep them all aboard the ship.  If the passengers, about 2,400, are removed, then the crew of about 1,100 can be isolated in the cabins.  It seems that plans are being made to do so.

To keep our growth calculations on the land, we remove both the confined 45 cases from the Diamond Princess and the 21 from the Grand Princess from the total of 338, giving 272 land cases today.

Yesterday the land total was 188.  The land growth is 84.  The percentage growth today is 84/188 = 44.7%, or 45%.
